These sessions on our courses give participants a chance to find out about ways to increase their income and reduce their spending and are linked to our sessions on healthy food and cooking.
They include: •Helping you identify where your money comes from.
•Making you aware of the help that’s available if you’re in a tricky financial situation or dealing with debts, including information on: obenefits you may be able to claim, oraising awareness of schemes to reduce or prevent debts for water, gas, electricity, broadband and phones,oyour rights if you owe money to companies and the best ways to communicate with them if you need to,owhere to find free support from reputable organisations.
•Looking at how much it costs to feed yourself and your family and comparing where and how to buy food more cheaply, for example:ocomparing supermarket prices, olooking at the difference between spending on takeaways, ready meals and home cooking, owhere to find free or cheap food locally.
•Considering the ways supermarkets encourage us to use them and stay loyal, alongside how they lure us into buying more, (or more expensively) than we really need!
•Identifying how to produce healthy, nutritious and cheap home-cooked meals by looking at: obest before and use by dates,onutrition labels on packets,ousing portion control, ostorage and ideas for using food that is leftover, for example how batch-cooking and freezing can help control a budget,othe difference in costs of using various appliances.
